MARA Leather Warranty
At Mara Leather, we craft pieces meant to be worn for decades, and we back that promise with a Lifetime Warranty covering flaws in materials and workmanship. If a problem traces back to how your piece was made, we'll fix it by repairing, replacing, or rebuilding it.
What We Cover
- Leather: Genuine leather used in our jackets, vests, gloves, and other leather goods
- Hardware: Zippers, buckles, snaps, rivets, D-rings, and any other metal fittings
- Construction: Broken stitching, separated seams, and faulty linings
This applies to both ready-made and custom pieces, whether shipped within the country or abroad. Items made from canvas, denim, twill, or mesh aren't covered for fabric defects, though their hardware remains protected.
What We Don't Cover
- Natural aging: Fading, creasing, patina, and light surface scuffs that come with regular wear
- Accidents and misuse: Cuts, tears, punctures, burns, heat exposure, impact damage, and pet damage
- Changes made after purchase: Patches, added hardware or decorations, alterations by anyone other than Mara Leather, and dyes or chemical treatments
- Poor care: Machine washing, harsh cleaners, mold or mildew from improper storage, and water damage from soaking
A Note on Patches
After patches (iron-on, sewn, or adhesive) or any other permanent embellishments are added, the piece is no longer eligible for return, exchange, or warranty repair. Taking patches off harms the leather and stitching, so we couldn't accurately judge defects or restore the piece. Please confirm the fit and quality are right for you before customizing.
Protecting Your Coverage
- Use leather-specific cleaners and condition your piece on a regular basis
- Spot clean with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap, then allow it to air dry
- Keep your piece somewhere cool and dry, away from sunlight and heat
- Never machine wash or tumble dry, and avoid bleach and household cleaning products

Care Details
Fine leather lasts for years when it's cared for properly. Here's how to keep your Mara piece looking its best.
Please avoid
- Bleach or any harsh chemical cleaners
- Washing, soaking, or tumble drying
- Storing or hanging your piece folded, as creasing can leave permanent marks
- Heat sources (radiators, hairdryers, car dashboards) and prolonged moisture
- Storing in plastic or vinyl bags, which trap humidity and can dry out or damage the leather
- Prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade color and dry the surface
We recommend
- Wiping gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and surface dirt
- Following the Mara Leather care steps included with your purchase
- Storing in a breathable cloth bag (the dust bag provided is ideal)
- Hanging on padded or wooden hangers to preserve shape
- Visiting a professional leather specialist for deep cleaning or conditioning when needed
With a little care, your Mara Leather piece will age beautifully and last for years.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a shearling, puffer and varsity jacket?
A shearling jacket has a leather or suede shell lined with sheepskin that keeps its wool, so it’s the warmest of the three. A puffer has quilted channels filled with insulation, with leather swapped in for the usual nylon shell. A varsity jacket has a wool body, ribbed trim and often leather sleeves, and suits cool weather best.
Which jacket is warmest for winter?
Full-lined shearling is the warmest, followed by a hooded or fur-collar leather puffer. Varsity jackets suit cool to cold days, especially over a sweater or hoodie. Check each product page for the exact lining, fill and collar material, since these differ by style.
What is shearling, and how is it different from sherpa?
Shearling is real sheepskin tanned with the wool left on, so one side is leather or suede and the other is dense wool. Sherpa usually refers to a fleece-style lining or collar with a similar look. Each product page lists exactly what that jacket uses, so check the description if the lining matters to you.
Is a shearling-lined jacket better than one with only a shearling collar?
It depends on your winters. A full lining gives the most warmth, while a collar-only style keeps your neck warm and is easier to layer. Collar-only styles also tend to start at lower prices.
Should I choose smooth leather or suede?
Smooth leather is the most wind-resistant and the easiest to wipe clean, which suits daily wear. Suede is softer and more vintage but marks more easily and needs more care around moisture. For slushy commutes, choose smooth.
What is a leather puffer jacket, and why choose it over nylon?
It’s a quilted puffer with a leather shell. Leather resists wear better than nylon, blocks wind, and softens and darkens with wear instead of just fading. It sits between a bomber and a winter coat, less bulky than a parka but warmer than a standard leather jacket.
What is the difference between a varsity jacket and a letterman jacket?
The terms are used interchangeably. “Letterman” refers to the tradition of adding a school letter or patch, while “varsity” describes the style.
What is a varsity jacket made of?
The body is usually wool, with ribbed knit trim at the collar, cuffs and waistband. Many styles have leather sleeves, while others use leather or contrast panels on the shoulders instead. Check each listing to see which build you’re getting.
Can I wear these jackets in the rain or snow?
Light weather is generally fine, but none of these jackets is fully waterproof. Avoid heavy rain, especially with suede or wool. If a jacket gets wet, blot it and air dry it on a wide hanger at room temperature, away from radiators, hairdryers and direct sun.
How should these jackets fit?
They should sit comfortably at the shoulders, with the seam at the edge of your shoulder. Leave room in the body for a sweater or hoodie, and sleeves should reach your wrist. Shearling and puffers add bulk, so think about what you’ll wear underneath. Compare the size chart on the product page with a jacket you already own, since sizing can vary between styles.
What size should I order if I’m between sizes?
If you plan to layer a hoodie or sweater, size up. Otherwise stay with the smaller size, since leather softens with wear. For personal sizing help, call us at (703)-870-5097. Our team is available 8 AM to 8 PM.
Can I customize a varsity jacket for my team, club or school?
Yes, MARA Leather offers custom varsity jackets and bulk wholesale options. See our custom varsity jacket page or call (703)-870-5097 with your request, and the team will explain the options.
Can I add patches or letters to my jacket?
Yes, varsity jackets are often personalized with chenille letters or patches, and professional stitching gives the best result. Adding patches or embellishments makes the jacket ineligible for return, exchange or warranty repair, because removing them damages the material. Confirm the fit and quality before customizing.
How do I clean and care for each jacket?
Never machine wash or tumble dry any of these jackets. Brush suede and shearling gently with a suede brush, and wipe smooth leather with a soft, damp cloth. For varsity jackets, spot clean the wool with a damp cloth and condition leather sleeves occasionally. Use a leather conditioner on leather puffers every few months, and see our Suede and Nubuck Care Kit for suede finishes.
How should I store my jacket in the off-season?
Make sure it’s clean and completely dry. Hang it on a wide, padded hanger in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sun. Use a breathable cloth garment bag, not plastic, which traps moisture.
What does the MARA Leather warranty cover?
Our lifetime warranty covers flaws in materials and workmanship, including leather, hardware (zippers, snaps, buckles) and construction (broken stitching, separated seams, faulty linings). It does not cover natural aging, accidents, misuse, poor care or alterations made after purchase. Items made from fabrics such as wool, canvas or denim aren’t covered for fabric defects, though their hardware remains protected.
Do you offer free shipping and returns?
Yes, qualifying orders ship free in the USA, and returns and exchanges are hassle-free. Shipping charges are shown at checkout, and tracking details are emailed once your order ships. Patched or embellished items are not eligible for return.
Do you have women’s styles?
Yes. We carry women’s shearling jackets and women’s leather puffer jackets in cuts designed for women. Browse them under Women’s Fashion Jackets.
